Who is CaHPSA?

Our organization consists of over 3,000 undergraduates, medical students, and health professional students who are interested in developing health advocacy skills that can be utilized to effect change in the healthcare system. Members are able to apply their experiences to better communicate the need for an improved medicare-for-all healthcare system in which all people can have access to necessary health and medical services.

Our Mission and Vision

Mission: California Health Professional Student Alliance (CaHPSA) is the student section of California Physicians Alliance (CaPA). CaHPSA aims to cultivate leadership and advocacy skills among health professional students so they can affect change in the healthcare system. This is done through grassroots efforts, education, and community outreach.

Vision: We envision California as a state with a universal health care system. Through the student support in our parent organization, CaPA, we can see a future in which there is a full implementation of Golden State Care, a unified system of public financing for California.

California Physicians Alliance

Mission: CaPA’s mission is to advocate, educate, and organize physicians and other health professionals to support creating a socially just and universal healthcare system that ensures quality and accessible health care for all Californians.

Vision: CaPA’s vision is the creation and full implementation of Golden State Care, a unified system of public financing for California. Golden State Care would cover all necessary healthcare costs, finances the delivery of healthcare while building upon current, private networks, covers all Californians from birth to death, and is unlinked from the place of employment.

California Physicians Alliance: Core Values and Guiding Principles

Health care is a fundamental human right.

Systemic racism in healthcare is a public health crisis and contributes to healthcare disparities.

Everyone residing in California deserves quality healthcare regardless of immigration status.

Full reproductive freedom and options must be available to everyone.

LGBTQIA+ patients should have equal rights and quality access to health services.

Mental health is an integral part of overall health. Our healthcare system should guarantee mental health services to all.

We must make significant investments in our public health system infrastructure:

  • Everyone deserves a quality education, nutritious food, and housing, as well as paid family leave, childcare, and access to social services.
  • Poverty must be eradicated.
  • Every American deserves a fair and living wage.
  • Local pollution and systemic climate change need urgent and direct attention.
  • Drug use and its treatment should be managed through the public health system and not the justice system. Drug use should be decriminalized.
