Lobby Day
Lobby Day is CaHPSA’s flagship event, held annually in Sacramento, California with an attendance of over 500 pre-health and medical university/college students, health & medical professionals, and community health activists.
Our two-day event starts with the Health4All Leadership and Training Conference which covers topics such as health care for the undocumented, health policy in California, an overview of the legislative process and single-payer health care, organizing a legislative visit, and the critical role of social responsibility. On the 2nd day, we sum up with a rally and legislative visits with our elected officials in our Capitol to advocate for health equity and health care that covers all Californians.
Day 1
Each year, we lobby on behalf of legislation that improves the quality and accessibility of health care in California. Participants are provided with research on the legislation, guidelines for presenting their case, background on the health care system and ways to improve it, and extensive networking opportunities during the leadership and training conference on Day 1.
Day 2
On Day 2, all attendees march to our State Capitol, where we all join in solidarity to voice our support for an improved health care system, which allows all people – regardless of their financial means, documentation status, gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation – to have access to quality health care. We advocate for patient rights and a health care system that puts patients before profits, all stemming from our belief that health care is a human right.
ActivateU Conference
The purpose for the ActivateU Conference is to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the role of advocacy and political engagement in improving health care.
Empower and ACTIVATE students to become engaged in the political process and effectively advocate for health care justice.
With health care continuously emerging as a top national concern among Americans this year, efforts to educate aspiring health and medical professionals are important in shaping the future of health care in this nation. Providing opportunities for pre-health and medical students to better understand the system and health policy helps to establish a strong foundation on which they can advocate for improvements to health care.
